Mentor Coaching
The purpose of 7-hour group mentor coaching sessions is for us to provide developmental support for participants to align their skills to a certain standard of practice being aligned with the ICF core-competencies and code of ethics in a group setting in the class while learning about coaching skills. For us in the CFC it is a collaborative, appreciative and dialogue process based on an observation in the group setting in our classes and giving feedback to grow their coaching capabilities based on the ICF standards. In our experience while teaching the 7-hour group mentor coaching will be all about 2 participants coaching one another as a role play, one be the coach and the other one be the coachee. When the role play is done in the class, the instructor first will ask the coach's and the coachee's feedback that how it was their experience in this coaching conversation and in what areas they believe they need more support and of course while acknowledging the coach and the coachee the rest of the class is observing and learning form the process again. That's where exchanging knowledge happens, and the instructor will ask other participants again what they have observed and how this experience could have been more meaningful based on the ICF standards. It's important for us to draw the ground rules of giving feedback and exchanging knowledge in the group setting so we all will respect boundaries and share thoughts without judgement and of course asking permission if the person is willing to receive the feedback in the class. At the end the instructor will rap up and give exercises based on what everyone has observed and learnt as their takeaways so for the next week we all elaborate more on different options to learn and to be more professional in delivering a coaching session.
The purpose of 3-hour one-to-one mentor coaching is the same with the difference of not being in a group setting but instead its in a one-to-one setting with an approved supervisor so the supervisor can get the individual into a deeper level of undertaking and practicing the ICF core-competencies in action which happens in 3 separate sessions. The individual will send the first recording of their coaching practice with a potential client to the supervisor and the supervisor will go over the learning objectives based on the ICF core-competencies to measure the quality of coaching regarding each recording and every individual will receive feedback on every 3 recordings, they will also receive the pdf of the results at the end and a resource to refer.
